The closure procedure is a
treatment alternative to surgical
stripping of the large veins o the leg
(greater saphenous vein) and occasionally other large
varicose veins of the leg. A small catheter is inserted
through a small needle stick under ultrasound-guidance
into the diseased vein. Radiofrequency current is applied
inside the vein causing the vein to collapse and ultimately
completely seal shut, therapy eliminating the vein and its
accompanying reflux.
This can be done on an outpatient surgical basis with a
quick return to normal activities.
Compression hosiery supplements the treatment.
